WNTI, SARP and EBTJV Partnerships Selected for Multistate Grant Funding - Multistate
10/11/2008 1:09:00 AM
WASHINGTON -- At the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies' recent Annual Meeting, voting members approved the recommendation of 14 projects to be funded through the 2009 Multistate Conservation Grants Program (MSCGP) cycle. The Association works cooperatively with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to implement the program, which provides $6 million annually for sport fish and wildlife conservation projects. The Western Native Trout Initiative, Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership and the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture were among the projects selected for the 2009 Cycle.

Based on the project recommendations submitted by the Association after administering the application process, the USFWS awards and manages grants as established by the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Programs Improvement Act of 2000 (Pub. L. 106-408). Grants are awarded on a calendar-year basis for one, two or three years and must benefit at least 26 states, a majority of states in a USFWS region or Regional Associations.

For the 2009 MSCGP cycle, the Association received 112 Letters of Intent from state and federal fish and wildlife agencies, regional associations and non-governmental organizations and 20 groups were invited to submit full proposals.

The Association's National Grants Committee met on September 10, 2008 and selected the 14 projects to recommend to members, which were subsequently approved the following day at the Association's Business Meeting. The Committee focused on directing MSCGP funds to the states’ highest priorities as they contribute to or advance the Association's identified National Conservation Needs. The total cost of the 14 recommended proposals is $6,671,744.22 ($3,332,554.31 in Wildlife Restoration funds and $3,339,189.91 in Sport Fish Restoration funds).
