Greetings on behalf of the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture Partnership Steering Committee.

As you may know, a large group of partners, including state fish and wildlife agencies, federal resource agencies, academic institutions and private sector conservation organizations, has been working over the past several years on a conservation initiative for Eastern brook trout and their habitats. Developed as the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture Partnership, the initiative has already helped produce a range-wide population assessment and extensive work identifying key threats and conservation opportunities.

To continue to support these collaborative efforts, the Steering Committee of the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture Partnership has adopted a Management Structure and is requesting that all active partners sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU, which simply affirms a voluntary commitment to participate, includes no requirement for commitment of specific funds to support the effort.

Formalization and expansion of the partnership through the MOU will prepare the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture Partnership to represent the interests of partner agencies and organizations in advancing strategic priorities through grant opportunities, including those becoming available as a result of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan. Our strong partnership, the strategic identification of priority conservation actions and our comprehensive progress measurement capabilities will help the Eastern brook trout effort to lead the way in demonstrating the power of the Action Plan.

Please print the MOU and ask the appropriate representative to sign on behalf of your organization. An original copy of the completed signature page should be mailed to the Steering Committee in care of Lila Borge Wills at the Conservation Management Institute. Mailing information can be found on the document.
